I love Winnipeg's memories

I grew up in Winnipeg, spent my childhood biking up and down St Anne's road in the summer and being pulled along by my grandfather on a crazy carpet in the winter. I spent my teenage years hanging out at the food court in St Vital mall, and walking up and down Osbourne. But, like all teenagers I couldn't WAIT to get out of this "dead-end" city.

Five days after my 18th birhday I packed a suitcase and hopped a flight to London, England, much to the envy of all my childhood friends. I spent seven years living, working and exploring Europe. Stonehenge, the tower of London, Edinbourgh castle, the Berlin wall, the Eiffel tower... And then I met a boy, I told him all about Assiniboine Park, Osbourne Village, the Fort Whyte centre, how in the winter it got so cold you could watch your spit freeze before it hit the ground and in the summer it was so hot you really could cook breakfast on the hood of your car. How you could walk five minutes in any direction and it was like being in a totally different city. How we got the best bands, the best festivals, and the best thunder storms. I told him how much i loved the city I grew up in, and as I did, I realised all i wanted to do was go home.

Two years later we were married, and on a fight back to Canada. My husband had never been outside Europe before, and here he was, because of my stories and love, leaving everything he ever knew to move to a country he didn't know.

I have been back in Winnipeg nine months now, and despite everywhere i've lived, and everything I've seen, I really can't imagine being anywhere else.

There isn't one thing I love about Winnipeg, because I love it all. It's better than London or Paris or New York. It has the friendliest people, the most beautiful parks, and the best food out of every city I've seen.

And now, once again, it has The Jets!
